Hello! We are Susan Baldaserini (Nebbiolo) and Shai Kessler (Spätburgunder). We opened our shop with the belief that drinking wine should be fun and that picking a great bottle doesn't need to be a stuffy or intimidating experience.
We’re a neighborhood shop with a deep respect for how wine is made—and who’s making it. We seek out sustainably farmed wines and small-batch spirits from independent producers who care about their land, their communities, and the integrity of what’s in the bottle. No industrial shortcuts, no unnecessary additives, no snobbery.
We love wines with a story. We love winemakers you’ve never heard of—yet. But most of all, we love being part of this community. Whether we’re slinging bottles, sharing a taste, or just talking about what you’re making for dinner, we’re here for connection, discovery, and yes, a bit of frivolity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does sustainable wine mean?
Sustainable wine refers to wine produced in a way that is environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable. It goes beyond just how the grapes are grown to encompass the full lifecycle of wine production—from vineyard to bottle.
This can include reduced chemical use and water conservation in the field. It encompasses energy efficiency and waste reduction in the winery, and supports fair labor and working with local farms and family-owned operations.
Gauging sustainability is not black and white. Different countries adhere to different levels of certification and qualification. But we can assure you that we consider every bottle we bring into the shop with an eye on not only the product, but also the planet, the people, and the future.
Do you have wine with no sulfites?
Technically, wine without any sulfites doesn’t exist. Sulfites are naturally occurring compounds produced during fermentation. So even if no sulfur is added, tiny amounts (usually under 10 parts per million) are still present in all wine.
Winemakers will add sulfites at bottling to prevent oxidation, stop unwanted bacterial growth, or stabilize the wine during bottling and shipping.
We recognize a general consumer awareness around sulfites in wine, and certainly work to source numerous options with minimal intervention and minimal parts per million. Generally, in the shop these will be the bottles flagged as true natural wines (not just organic or sustainable). You can search 'natural' on our site or chat us up in the shop to find some great options.
You have a lot of wines I've never seen before, where do you find them?
In keeping with our mission to source sustainable wines from independent producers, we look well beyond the mass-produced, conventionally made, big-box-shop kind of bottles. We partner with more than 25 importers and distributors to curate a thoughtful, ever-evolving selection that reflects the diversity and soul of real wine.
Many of our reps have walked the vineyards, toured the cellars, and shared meals with the winemakers they represent—bringing back stories as rich as the wines themselves. When you step away from the industrial stuff, what you find is heart, intention, and hard work in every bottle. It's a true joy to help those wines find their way to Coxsackie.
Have you tasted every wine in the shop?
It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it. Whether we're attending importer portfolio tastings, meeting with sales reps, or discovering a great glass at a nearby restaurant, we do indeed sample every wine before it makes its way to our shelves for sale.
Do you sell non-alcoholic wine or cocktails?
No! Believe it or not, New York state law prohibits us from selling any non-alcoholic beverages. However, you can skip across the street to the Coxsackie General Store for a selection of non-alcoholic beverages (they also sell great local craft beers).
Do you do in-store wine tastings?
Yes. During the summer months, we hold weekly tastings on Wednesdays from 4:00 - 6:30PM to coincide with the Coxsackie Farmers Market (mid-May through mid-October).
Beyond that, we usually have a bottle or two open in the shop all day on a Saturday, and will coordinate robust tastings in November and December leading up to the holidays.
The best way to stay current with goings on in the shop is to follow on Facebook or Instagram, or sign up for our monthly email newsletter.
Can you do an offsite tasting or class?
Yes. We're more than happy to come to you for a private tasting or event. We generally recommend a 2-hr session, priced at $275 plus the cost of wine. Give us a call at (518) 731-6326 or send a message to begin the conversation.
Can you supply the wine for my wedding or event?
Yes! There might be some limitations on licensing with your caterer or event venue, but where and when permitted, we're happy to help curate the wine and spirits for your special event. We usually require a 2-3 week lead time to ensure all inventory is in stock with our distributors and then in-house at our shop. Give us a call at (518) 731-6326 or send a message to begin the conversation.
Can you special order a bottle or case for me?
Yes! If we can find it, we can get it for you. Give us a call at (518) 731-6326 or send a message to begin the conversation.
Can you ship?
We ship Fedex Ground on your behalf, with shipping rates and delivery times calculated during checkout dependent on your location, size, and weight of package. As soon as the shipment leaves our shop, you will receive a shipping notification along with tracking information. Clients 21 and older must be available to sign for the package.
All sales are final. The Reed Street Bottle Shop reserves the right, for whatever reason, to refuse or cancel an order or to accept a return or exchange of items.
Due to legal restrictions, we are currently only shipping wine within New York State. We do not ship liquor to any state.
Can you deliver nearby?
Yes! With a $250 order minimum, we will deliver to most parts of Greene and Columbia counties. The option for delivery will pop up in your shopping cart if order minimum is met and delivery address is within range. Not sure, or possibly out of range? Give us a call at (518) 731-6326.
