Sustainable, Organic, Natural.

The Douloufakis family has been making wine in Dafnes since 1930, when patriarch Dimitris built one of Crete's first professional wineries. Today his grandson Nikos runs the estate, trained in oenology at Alba in Piedmont, of all places—a fitting education, since Liatiko, Crete's most widely planted red, bears a striking resemblance to Nebbiolo in its weight, its acidity, and its arc toward elegance. Nikos has championed it at a time when most island winemakers had turned their backs on native grapes in favor of international ones. His organic vineyards sit at 350 meters on limestone hillsides above the village. The Liatiko ages 12 months in neutral French oak, enough to add texture without obscuring the grape.
Translucent ruby, lighter than you might expect. On the nose: red cherry, pomegranate, dried herbs, a flicker of umami. On the palate it's fresh and mid-weight (cranberry, rhubarb, cracked pepper) with fine, dusty tannins and a long, lightly smoky finish. Serve with a slight chill. Pairs with lamb, roasted vegetables, or a good cheese board.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/5191/4521/files/FullSizeRender_a9af23dd-1ec6-4ee2-be92-4e9738b19922.jpg?v=1780695627
